The U.S. Marine Corps, through its Marine Rotational Force-Darwin (MRF-D), is significantly expanding its operational footprint across the Philippines as part of a broader Indo-Pacific strategy. Exercises such as KAMANDAG 9, Balikatan 2025, and others involve close cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Japan, and South Korea. These efforts reflect strategic aims under Force Design 2030, including developing command and control capabilities, adaptive logistics (“21st-century foraging”), and regional mobility to counter growing Chinese influence in the South China Sea.
